How Trafford Home Choice works

Trafford Home Choice is the system Trafford Council uses to manage access to social housing in the borough. Trafford Council does not own any housing stock. All homes advertised through Trafford Home Choice are owned and managed by Registered Providers (housing associations). The council’s role is to manage the housing register, assess applications, and decide priority in line with the Housing Allocations Policy.
Homes are advertised in regular bidding cycles. Applicants can express interest in homes they are eligible for by placing a bid. After bidding closes, applications are ranked based on housing band, priority date, and whether the property is suitable for the household. Registered Providers then carry out checks, such as affordability, property suitability, and tenancy history, before making an offer.
Applicants must register an application, keep their information accurate, report changes in circumstances, and only bid for homes they are eligible for. Evidence must be provided when requested so applications can be assessed correctly.
